Abstract

Since Hippocrates, more than 2,400 years ago, iatrogenesis has been recognized as the avoidable damage caused by the medical care process itself, rather than by the disease that the patient suffers. However, the actual assessment is much more recent of the damage produced during the medical care process and directly linked to it. Recent data in which various researchers reviewed, with an adequate screening methodology, the medical records of patients in search of this damage and classify it as avoidable or not, They have unequivocally demonstrated that this situation has become one of the main problems of public health.
