Soft tissue tumours differential diagnosis
Primary hydatid disease of the quadriceps muscle
Keywords:
SOFT TISSUE NEOPLASMS, ECHINOCOCCOSIS, DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSISAbstract
Soft tissue tumors are frequent, a large number are located in the extremities and, although most of them are benign, their etiological diagnosis is hard to make. For this reason, it is always essential to safely discard sarcoma. Most of them are solid and cystic tumors are exceptional, especially the hydatid disease.
The present communication examines elements present in the differential diagnosis of soft tissue tumors for a case of primary hydatid disease of the quadriceps muscle. An emphasis is made on clinical and image factors, it includes a discussion on the biopsy and it also suggests that in Uruguay –an endemic environment– we need to incorporate the hydatid disease into the differential diagnosis of soft tissue tumors.
